On the right track with Barefoot Traveller – luxury holidays by train – Part II

On the right track with Barefoot Traveller – luxury holidays by train
On my crowded morning commuter train, I was reading an article about the recent rise in popularity of luxury holidays by train and the irony was not lost on me. Feeling fortunate just to have found a seat, there’s certainly no red carpet treatment on board my daily train ride to work.
Some have attributed the growth in holidays by train to the success of recent television programmes such as the BBC’s ‘Great Railway Journeys’ series and the ‘Michael Portillo effect’, which captured the romance and beauty of travelling by train en route to stunning destinations perfectly. And it’s easy to see why a relaxing rail tour of India is an ideal way to really get to see the sights of such a vast country.
Maharaja-express-junior-suite-Luxury holidays
Luxury holidays by Maharaja-express-junior-suite
Fortunately, luxury holidays by train are possible thanks to India’s long railway history and the aptly named ‘Indian Splendour’ tour is a 2000-mile trip from Delhi to Mumbai taking in the amazing sights of the Taj Mahal, Rajasthan’s forts and palaces, tigers in Ranthambore National Park and even a few chukkas of elephant polo along the way.
The Maharajas’ Express is the luxury Indian train that transports you into a stylish world of travel with panoramic viewing lounges, private air-conditioned suites and compartments, your own personal valet and all the latest modern touches to make it a journey to remember. There is a choice of two fine dining restaurants, comfortable bar lounges, even an onboard spa, as you take in the sights of palaces and princely estates, Jaipur’s Amber Fort and the natural wonder of Balasinar, India’s very own ‘Jurassic Park’.
Maybe it’s because my husband proposed to me on board a luxury holiday by train that this kind of unique journey holds such appeal and it’s no coincidence that many enquiries to Barefoot Traveller about train holidays in India are from honeymooners and couples celebrating special birthdays or anniversaries. For more details about a tailor-made holiday to India, contact our team today through www.barefoot-traveller.com or +44 (0) 20 8741 4319.
Now, where are the waiters in smart tunics and garlands to welcome me as I arrive at my station?

Pledge 3 Hotel – A review during a holiday in Sri Lanka

Pledge 3 Hotel – A review during a holiday in Sri Lanka
On a recent holiday in Sri Lanka, we were graciously hosted by newly opened Pledge 3 boutique hotel in Negombo and following are our thoughts on this eclectic property.
Suite
Pledge 3 is a fifteen minute drive away from the airport and makes a great base to rid yourself of jetlag or collect your thoughts regarding your holiday in Sri Lanka on your last night.
Nestled just a stone’s throw away from the beach and the Negombo tourist strip yet maintaining its exclusivity, Pledge 3 true to its name delivers on its promise of offering luxury and an intimate space for you and your better half.
Catering to couples, every facet of this hotel oozes romance, decadence and luxury.
This property captures you as you walk in its trendy minimalist design. High beams, wood flooring, polished cement walls and chic furniture. Keeping with the contemporary feel, the owners behind Pledge3 have taken great care in developing this flagship property and have been influenced greatly by their travels, so much so that the majority of the furnishing  here has been custom designed and brought in from Thailand and beyond.
Pledge3 offers its discerning clientele, six deluxe rooms and two spacious luxury attic suites.
Each room is styled around a different theme based on a Marilyn Monroe motif and comes complete with all the latest hotel amenities on par with a 5* boutique property.
If its rest and rejuvenation that you are after, why not take a dip in their salt water pool or settle in for a tan in their luxurious body curved pool deck chairs- pure tranquility. If it’s just a cup of coffee or a work station to catch up on your worldly happenings that you are after- we would highly recommend taking a seat by the edge of the pool or in the cement seating area of the retro pub.

Moving onto the food, well there is plenty of it here.  Crispy spring rolls to start you off and tangy tom yum goong, succulent Angus beef, divine lobster and homemade frozen yoghurt with a twist are just some of the gourmet delights that we tried here- we were impressed. The food here is fresh, seasoned to perfection and reasonably priced and we would say is the main highlight of a stay here.
Seafood-PlateThis property is still in its infancy but its sure to become a resounding success, the staff here are friendly, eager to serve and have a wealth of experience collectively, they hail from some of the world’s leading five stars.
We would recommend staying here for at least one night as part of your stay in Sri Lanka and with exclusive offers courtesy of Barefoot Traveller staying at Pledge 3 during your holiday in Sri Lanka will be a truly cherished experience.

Visit us on www.barefoot-traveller.com or call us on +44 (0) 20 8741 4319 to book this stay.

Seychelles holidays; beach break to an exotic island…

Seychelles holidays
Thinking of the perfect beach break to an exotic island? Why not consider Seychelles holidays.
Seychelles is situated just off the coast of South East Africa and consists of around 155 islands of which the most inhabited and popular are Mahe, Praslin & La-Digue. Each of these three islands has something different for those considering Seychelles holidays.

Praslin Island is the second largest of the islands and is bordered by staggeringly stunning beaches, most famous of all being Anse Lazio, considered as one of the five most exquisite in the world.
Arial-ViewLa Digue Island is fondly known as the most laid back of them all. This island is full of charm and seemingly untouched by the hands of time. Here one can experience the more traditional ways of life complete with ox cart rides.
Seychelles holidays seem to have it all, be it luxuriously endless miles of beaches, a diverse aquatic life complete with ship wrecks and turtles or even dense jungles filled with a plethora of bird life, Seychelles holidays can offer it all to you.
Seychelles holidays in the past were known as mainly for the millionaires of the world but increasingly Seychelles has now become more easily accessible but yet maintains its luxurious offerings. East Coast Sri Lanka Holidays

Sri Lanka Holidays
Following on from our thoughts regarding East Coast Sri Lanka holidays, we are highly pleased to say that travel experts agree that East Coast Sri Lanka holidays are something to watch out for in 2014. Conde Nast Traveller, named the East Coast of Sri Lanka the second most popular destination to watch out for in 2014, it’s hard to argue with this statement.
The East coast of Sri Lanka stretches all the way from the Kokkilai bird sanctuary in the north to the Kumana National park to the south. The East coast of Sri Lanka is a vibrant destination dotted with national parks, lagoons, and breathtakingly beautiful beaches. The East of Sri Lanka has many things to offer anyone looking at Sri Lanka holidays.
The East coast as part of Sri Lanka holidays is a destination that has something for seemingly everybody. Water babies will love the calm sea that kisses this coast and not forgetting the whales and dolphins that frequent these parts all year round as part of their migration. The East Coast of Sri Lanka until the end of the war was an untouched destination waiting to be discovered, now a few years on from the war, the East coast is seeing vast development.  5* hotels are cramming to get in on the excitement that is the East coast.
Sun kissed beaches, friendly faces and sumptuous sea food are reason enough to visit, if you find yourself a bit tired of lazy living by the beach, you could instead hop on a 4 x 4 and discover the jungles that border these beaches. Head to Kumana and Yala National park to discover wondrous beasts such as leopards, sloth bears and elephants or head north to discover some interesting birdlife in Kokkilai bird sanctuary.
Why not even combine a round tour of Sri Lanka with a visit to the East coast as part of Sri Lanka holidays.  Get in touch with Barefoot Traveller to discover your next East coast Sri Lanka holidays.
